Butterflies watch over the very much alive diners at Oyamel.

Today is Día de Los Muertos.

And I might as well admit it now since you will find out sooner or later. I am a José Andrés whore. Perhaps it’s the year I spent in Madrid, or the sheer fascination with his small plates, but given that his restaurant, Oyamel, is located here in D.C., there really was no other choice but to pay a visit to Señor Andrés’ outpost of Mexican cuisine on this day to remember loved ones and friends who have moved on to great reward.

From butterflies to butternut squash soup with marigolds, homemade croutons and sunflower seeds.
